Leading technology startup hub River City Labs has partnered with Australia’s largest startup co-working space Fishburners to co-host the city’s annual flagship Startup Weekend event, Queensland’s premier tech bootcamp where future entrepreneurs are born.
The 54-hour event in November will see the largest collaborative gathering of talented and passionate teams pitching their business ideas for a chance to win amazing prizes from sponsors and the opportunity to showcase their concepts to a panel of industry heavyweights.
Winners will have the opportunity to attract investment from angel investors and venture capital firms.
The event begins on Friday where teams brainstorm ideas, create business plans and develop prototypes. Sunday is the grand finale, culminating in demos and presentations to select winners.
Teams will be mentored by seasoned entrepreneurs, startup founders and other business experts, between Fishburners and River City Labs, who both have the ability to bring the best people together to help the teams as much as possible.
“Having hosted and organised over eight Startup Weekends in the last five years I am beginning to see a trend that these events uncover new talent and often is the start of the journey for some amazing founders.
“There are companies in Brisbane still going strong five years after kicking off their idea at a Startup Weekend. It’s a perfect platform to get started,” River City Labs CEO Peta Ellis said.
“River City Labs is thrilled to host Startup Weekend Brisbane with Fishburners. The time is right to support entrepreneurs as a community and cement the concept that we are all here to help create more founders and ensure they are supported.
“We’ve had strong support from the government in the form of the $420 million Advance Queensland initiative to turn ideas into products, services and jobs, and we’re committed to doing our part to help hasten that process,” Ms Ellis said.
Fishburners Brisbane City manager Marc Orchard said the organisation was proud to partner with River City Labs to bring Startup Weekend to Brisbane in 2017.
“This event is yet another example of why Queensland is one of the best places in Australia to start a startup.
“Fishburners looks forward to partnering with River City Labs more to help early stage tech startups to start and scale in Queensland,” Mr Orchard said.
Startup Weekend Brisbane is will be held at River City Labs, The Precinct on November 17-19. To register, visit Eventbrite.
