What are your future plans for Zable Health, and how do you envision its growth beyond Fishburners?
Matthew: Our future plans for Zable Health involve expanding our platform to cover more specialties and regions, enhancing our technology to provide even more precise and helpful information to patients, and continuing to foster partnerships with healthcare providers and industry stakeholders. We aim to become the go-to resource for Australians seeking specialist care, making healthcare navigation simple, accessible, and empowering for all.
Scott: We also plan to leverage the data and insights we’ve gained to further innovate and improve our services. Our goal is to create a seamless, integrated healthcare experience for all Australians. Beyond that, we are exploring opportunities to expand our offering, bringing our solutions to healthcare systems facing similar challenges. The journey ahead is exciting, and we are committed to positively impacting healthcare for every Australian in every situation.
If we turned the clock back to 2020, what advice would you give to your former selves?
Matthew: I would tell my former self to stay resilient and adaptable. The startup journey is filled with ups and downs, and it’s important to stay focused on your vision while being flexible enough to pivot when necessary. Building a strong support network and seeking mentorship can make a significant difference in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities.
Scott: My advice would be to embrace the learning process and not be afraid of failure. Every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. Surround yourself with a supportive community, like we did at Fishburners, and don’t hesitate to ask for help or advice. Collaboration and continuous learning are key to overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
How did Fishburners help in building your team, and can you share any specific stories?
Matthew: Fishburners played a crucial role in building our team. For instance, our head of product, Genevieve Katelis, was another member at Fishburners who initially contracted her services as a freelance product consultant. The stars aligned when Gen was placed at a desk opposite Scott and me by Tegan Harlow, who thought we would be a good match. Tegan was right, and over the next few months, Gen began working with us, starting with a few hours a week and quickly becoming Zable’s first full-time employee. Her passion for our mission was truly aligned with ours.
Another fantastic story is from our first live pitch at a Fishburners pitch night. It was the first time we publicly shared our story, and I didn’t expect much beyond practice and getting over any fears of public speaking. But the outcome was incredible. After the pitch, a guy named Anthony Marcar approached us, praised the pitch, and expressed how much he believed in our mission. Over a few coffees and deep conversations, Anthony became our CTO! Beyond Gen and Anthony, we’ve engaged with many other Fishburners members who have consulted their skills to help shape what Zable is today.
