Recently, Fishburners, Australia’s largest startup community, appointed technology startup experts, David Jones and Jessica Walker to the board of directors.
Both will join the board as community representatives to support the strategic direction of the not-for-profit organisation during its next phase of expansion.
Having just reached their ten-year anniversary, Fishburners is working toward becoming the best online/offline community for startups in the world – which demands strategic input from community members.
Jones is a veteran of the technology startup space, particularly in Sydney. He is the founder of Pointzi, a digital onboarding platform, and is a long-term Fishburners member. Formerly co-founder at Threatmetrix.com (acquired by RELX for over $1B AUD) and founder Surfcontrol Email (acquired by Websense), Jones has made a significant impact on the Australian startup ecosystem.
David commented “I’m excited to join the Fishburners board. Covid has changed the world forever and Fishburners is leading the charge in growing the most supportive community for founders – in-house, remote, or anywhere! We already have a vibrant and supportive community, and an incredible operational team – I’m looking forward to seeing Fishburners grow its role as the gravitational centre for founder excellence.”
Walker is a well-known technology startup advocate and community leader, across Australia and New Zealand. Her passion for entrepreneurship is made evident through her exceptional track record of building successful startups, communities and now – catalysing startup funding through her role as Investment Associate at Black Nova VC. Having recently founded and exited property management startup Idle (acquired by Airsorted 2018), she has a wealth of experience in the space.
Jessica commented, “I am thrilled to be joining Fishburners as a Non-Executive Board member. Having been part of the community for the last 5 years, I have seen the magic that happens here. It’s an honour to help guide this inspiring community into the future, staying true to our core values, empowering founders to thrive and startups to grow.”
Alongside existing board members Bilyana Smith, Rod Bishop, Andrew Thornton, Clive Mayhew, Jacqui Feeney Fishburners CEO Nicole O’Brien is thrilled to welcome both leaders to the board.
Nicole said, “I am so excited to see long-term Fishburners members David and Jessica join the board of directors as we expand our ‘founder first’ impact over the next ten years. In particular, I am thrilled to support a young female entrepreneur like Jess in her first board member role. Having a voice for the community on the board is absolutely critical to our success.”
