What we do
We administer intellectual property (IP) rights and legislation relating to patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder’s rights. We contribute to the innovation system more broadly by using our skills and experience to advise government and Australian businesses to make the most of their IP.
IP Australia and Fishburners/Start-ups
At IP Australia we highly value our partnerships with start-ups and incubation hubs. We want to ensure that Australian start-ups are exceptionally educated on IP, and have the tools necessary to make informed decisions about their IP strategies. The best strategy for some start-ups may be not to apply for IP. However, if this is the case, we want Australian start-ups to be confident making this decision.
To help raise the IP knowledge of Australian start-ups, IP Australia will provide, through the facilitation of Fishburners, a range of materials and activities. These will include educational IP workshops hosted at Fishburners and a start-up IP kit.
