It’s been almost a year since we opened our doors in Ultimo. We filled up our first allocation of desks within 6 weeks and have since added many more desks and a new level, taking us to over 100 entrepreneurs in over 60 startups.
We’ve been looking for new space for a while, and after being approached by the City of Sydney and succesfully bidding for their “making space for creativity” project, we’ve set ourselves up in an amazing new office in Oxford St Darlinghurst. The new location is a bit smaller than our Ultimo location, but it more than makes up for its size with fantasic Google-esque garden-themed fitout and beautiful views over the city and harbour.
We officially opened our doors on Friday the 24th of February, with a talk by Ryan Junee (one of the first successes of Y-Combinator, who sold his video annotation technology to Youtube within 9 months of starting), and a visit by Clover Moore the Lord Mayor of Sydney.
Darlinghurst and the immediate surrounds of Surry Hills and East Sydney are definitely Sydney’s hotbed for the internet and creative industries, and is full of web, marketing, ad and PR agencies. So it makes sense that we make our new Darlinghurst home a base for entrepreneurs with good production skills. We’re looking to fill up the space with experts in all aspects of web and mobile production – including web programmers, graphic designers, UX/interface designers, SEO/SEM experts, marketers, PR agents and more.
Creating a space where independent production experts can work from allows them to collaborate with all the other experts, sharing their expertise, teaching and advising each other, working together on projects, and hopefully once in a while even join forces and start new businesses.
Our existing location in Ultimo is full of amazing product innovation companies who are always looking for good people to work on their businesses, so we’ll undoubtedly see some good working relationships happen across town. Likewise, our production people in Darlinghurst will learn a lot about building and managing product businesses from our existing members and get the leg up they need to start building their own.
